PROTAGONIST
Radu is no hero. He is a Romanian immigrant, graduating a top Canadian University, facing a generational dilemma: what do I do with my life?
His short stature, high-pitched voice, thick glasses and introverted nature make him an unlikely adventurer. Behind his unimpressive appearance lies a traumatic past, self-doubt, hypochondria, and a sense of not belonging.
With minimal gear, no training, and no money, he embarks on a solo adventure across two continents, a journey that would transform the anxious outsider into a seasoned explorer.

INNER JOURNEY
This film is not about an exceptional hero born for adventure. It's about a vulnerable, ordinary young man carrying the weight of alienation and family trauma, someone with whom many of us will relate.
Radu's transformation is visible throughout his own footage: he starts off hesitant and cringey, imitating what he thinks an adventurer should sound like. As the journey progresses, this self-consciousness melts away. The camera becomes less a performance tool and more a confidant.
His metamorphosis speaks to the untapped potential within all of us, revealing what we might accomplish when we have the guts to step beyond our comfort zones. It all starts with one hesitant, terrifying step into the unknown.

THREADS
Raw, unfiltered self-documentation throughout three years, evolving from a rehearsed wannabe adventurer to a man who found his genuine voice. Talks to camera in Romanian; dialogues in English, Spanish and Portuguese, the last two languages learned on the road.
A voice-over drawn from journal entries that gradually reveals Radu's complex past, childhood traumas, and evolving perspectives on freedom and happiness, providing the emotional context behind the physical journey.
Director Andrei Dăscălescu tracked down and interviewed people who helped Radu, discovering they were also deeply changed by the encounter, a vivid portrait of the Americas' cultural diversity, connected by human kindness.
Casual conversations between Radu and Andrei bridge narrative gaps, while following a parallel story: Radu preparing his first-ever home for a new life with Irina.
In a Hollywood-worthy twist, an unexpected online romance finally gives Radu reason to stop. His relationship with Irina blossoms into the emotional anchor he had spent a lifetime searching for.

WHERE WE
STAND TODAY
Andrei reviewed 60+ hours of original footage and recorded a 17-hour interview with Radu. Together they co-wrote the script. The project participated in the Ex Oriente Film workshop at the Institute of Documentary Film.
Capturing reflections from secondary characters about their interactions with Radu and their own lives, to create a rich portrait of the Americas' cultural diversity. Crafting voice-over narration and filming present-day sequences.
Working parallel to production, identifying key moments where the external journey transitions to Radu's inner transformation. First assembly targeted for autumn 2026.
Over 50% of the budget secured domestically. Seeking international partners to help close the gap and maximize global audience reach. World premiere: mid-2027.
