OF THE YEAR 2018
Between 2015 and 2018 Radu cycled from the North Slope of Alaska to the south of Tierra del Fuego, solo, in a 34,554 km long journey that covered every continental country across both North and South America. For this particular expedition he was named European Adventurer of the Year 2018.
He did not stop there. Between 2020 and 2023, Radu explored New Zealand and Australia by walking and cycling. After almost 3,000 km on foot and bike across New Zealand's North Island, South Island and Stewart Island, he decided to explore Australia's most isolated desert regions on a recumbent trike on which he rode 11,238 km, from Cape York to Torbay Head, across some of the roughest tracks of the Northern, Central and Western Australia.
Radu has dedicated himself to exploring the planet's remaining wilderness using only non-motorized means. His current focus is the crossing of the world's largest islands, with a long-term ambition to one day traverse Antarctica.
EXPEDITIONS
Exploring New Zealand
What began as a 17-day holiday in New Zealand turned into an open-ended odyssey when the Covid-19 pandemic closed borders worldwide and cancelled all flights home. Stranded since March 2020, Radu and his partner Irina Repede made a bold decision: instead of waiting, they would walk, cycle and kayak the entire length of New Zealand. Starting from Cape Reinga, the sacred northernmost tip of the North Island, they followed the Te Araroa Trail, a 3,000 km route through some of the country's most remote and untouched landscapes. They crossed wild desert-like dunes along Ninety Mile Beach, paddled five days down the Whanganui River through bush-clad gorges, waded through caves lit by glowworms, and navigated mud-soaked winter trails through native forest. A Māori community invited them to stay at their Ninety Mile Beach campground free of charge, taking them to a marae and sharing legends and traditions. On the South Island, Radu made a solo ascent of Mt Aspiring (3,033 m) and spent seven days in the Fiordland wilderness. The expedition concluded on Stewart Island, making them among very few people to have traversed New Zealand's three main islands entirely under their own power.

Radu's long-term ambition is to cross each of the world's largest islands entirely under his own power, culminating in the ultimate challenge: a full crossing of Antarctica. This ongoing project will unfold over the coming years.
